I hope my son knows just how much I love him because to me it felt like I was on an episode of the Twilight Zone (cue the theme now).
Talk of taking turns packing brown bag snacks for the entire team, how this one has three kids that ALL run and that they've never been allowed entrance into a school after a meet (but there are Porta-Potties...yay), volunteering to wash the uniforms (because they're not permitted to keep them at home), volunteering to direct certain turns on the course, volunteering, volunteering, and more volunteering.
My eyes glazed over and my mouth got dry.
Don't get me wrong. I am very pleased that the kid is finally taking part in something other than swapping cheat codes for PSP games. I'm enjoying the fact that he loves it! I also get that it is important that I let him know that I support him even if that means stepping outside of my comfort zone to stand alongside all of the soccer moms and do fundraisers. Even though my son must have sensed my discomfort because he assured me that I didn't have to.
(Sigh).
I love my son.
But then Captain Oblivious had his turn where HIS eyes glazed over and HIS mouth went dry. On meet days he has to wear a shirt, a tie, and nice pants. NO DENIM. He turned to me and asked what denim was.
"Jeans," I told him.
His face dropped. Then he perked up a bit. "Does this mean I can get that tie from Old Navy?" he asked. I told him that we could indeed get that tie. For the record... it has skulls on it :) Have I mentioned I love my son?
Thankfully there doesn't seem to be a dress code for the parents. So if you're at one of the meets and you see a "soccer mom" donning a pair of Chucks, a faded Army Jacket, a t-shirt and some denim... you can be pretty certain its me.

Oh. My. Heck. You joined in. I am so proud of you!
And now I have this urge to buy CO a tie, too ;)
Btw, his white dress shirt is too small...it might fit you now...
