Whew! The painting is done and a sense of normalcy is finally returning. A couple of things are still to be resolved (like a new kitchen light, cleaning the carpet, and waiting for the new cabinets to arrive) but the good news is that I'm no longer retrieving pantry items from the foyer :)
We're all enjoying the perks of living in town again. With the onset of beautiful weather we have been taking leisurely walks around the neighborhood. Sometimes we take our little jaunts in the morning if we're both scheduled for an evening shift. We enjoy a walk down to the corner store frequently and the other day we walked down to the local meat market for an impromptu picnic at the park: chicken salad, french bread, pea salad and two pieces of delicious banana cream cake.
Discovering the 19th Street Meat Market (or rediscovering in Mack's case) has been a veritable treasure in our continuing goal to become locavores. All the meats come from local farms which means that we're supporting our local farmers AND... the freshness is unbelievable. We purchase most of our meats there when it makes sense and/or is in the budget. I still cannot rationalize paying $4.19/lb for some chicken breasts and had a hard time choking back when 3 pork chops rang up close to $11. But they were butterflied and humongous. Not to mention delicious with a bourbon rub we also picked up there :)
Our local Farmer's Market is also open for the season! Although I will not be a participating vendor this year (too many mishaps and such for me to have made enough soap to even fill my display) we will definitely be patrons. Fresh peas and strawberries... here we come.
You can definitely tell that since the kitchen is in working order I've got food on the brain, eh?

So there with you. I rediscovered T&E Meats here, and also found out that they have their own locally-raised label. Yay!! 2 chops for $6 down here....
