I'm not quite sure why but Mack has been asking for a lamp for quite some time and I decided to fulfill his desire. But of course I had to do it in true Sweet Tea fashion and find something
cheap worthy of upcycling. After all, we do have a budget to maintain and a planet to save.

Goodwill... $5.00 |

It didn't come with a lampshade. I'm positive that it used to have a globe that went over the light bulb since there was no hardware for a shade.

Lampshade at Goodwill... $2.50 & Spray Paint from Lowe's 2@$3.78 |
|
|
Mack and I picked out what we now refer to as "Sexy Red" and "Aubergine". The aubergine is flat since I did not want the lampshade shiny. Yes... I spray painted a lampshade. Anything that doesn't move of it's own accord is fair game to spray some paint on in my book.

I taped off all the sections/parts I didn't want to spray paint. |
|
For the shade I did several thin coats so as not to saturate the fabric. The lamp base received at least three coats. Picked up some hardware to attach the shade ($4.12) and voila...

Pretty Ugly Lamp for about $20 |
When the lamp is all lit up the shade looks red too. I would have snapped a picture but at this point I got lazy (I had also primed two dining room chairs and recovered four of the seats). So lazy that I didn't want to move the couch to run the extension cord to plug in the Pretty Ugly Lamp.
I am determined to finish up several of the projects that have gone to the wayside. Next up are the dining room chairs that I haven't touched since the french fries attacked. Only one more to prime before I get down to the actual pretty painting portion.
