No, I didn't go and adopt a fourth dog! But I did rescue our checkbook this morning :)
The lady that was there this morning was exceptionally nice and super excited that the dog formally known as Sean has a home. She asked me tentatively if I was aware that he had hearing issues. I laughed and said yes. She then asked me if I had been able to determine to what degree his hearing is limited. Again I laughed and stated, "100%... He's deaf."
She leaped to his defense then (I guess fearing that I had changed my mind) and said, "But he is super smart!" I agreed and assured her that he is already well loved and has been welcomed by two other wagging creatures into the household. I also shared with her the fact that it is like he has always been here. We discussed the fact that since we have two hearing dogs that it would be easier for the non-hearing one to pick up cues from them on what is expected and not expected.
Oh, and he has officially been dubbed Edsion in tribute to the deaf inventor Thomas Edison. The Foolish One and her hubby stopped by last night to meet the new edition to our family. Because of her we now have the sign that we will use in reference to Edison... the sign for lightbulb :) I've determined that it is going to be crucial to get these signs into place soon. Not only will we be using them with Edison but also with Cooper and Roo. Edison's training has already informally started. When attempting to get his attention I've already started using the lightbulb sign.
Now comes the marathon run of doggie appointments!
1) Cooper is having a day of beauty as we speak. Getting his undercoat thinned, a cut, a shampoo, nails trimmed, etc. It has already proved invaluable having Edison here because Roo has not whined in his usual fashion since he still has a playmate.
2) Tomorrow Cooper and Edison go to the vet's at 3:00. I'll be by myself and I'm not quite brave enough to attempt all three. Coop has an update on his shots and Eddie is getting a checkup. Roo will be a whining ball of fur the entire time. Thankfully I won't be around to hear it. Poor neighbors...
3) Sunday at 8:30 am Roo goes to be groomed. His first time and the groomer has already been informed that he is spastic as hell. I know he will not prove me wrong in this.
4) Edison goes to the Shenandoah Spay and Neuter Clinic on Monday morning at 8:00 to be neutered and for his first found of shots. Roo then goes to the vet at 9:30 for an update on his shots.
5) Tentatively we pick Eddie up Tuesday morning at 7:30 but if all goes well he will probably be home Monday evening....
6) Edison will go for his grooming sometime after all of that...
I'm exhausted just thinking about it all.
New things we've learned about Edison: he does not like bananas, he either snores or has a cold, and he loves to curl up by your feet. Which is kind of an issue since the place at my feet is generally held by Roo. Technically Mack's dog but... From that little bit of info we know who the dogs consider as the Alpha.
