Market Whore Locavore

Another foray to the Farmer's Market. I was a bit saddened by the fact that a) the Cupcake Girl was not there and b) apparently the previous week was the last of the peas. So goes shopping locally and planning menus around what is currently in season. Will I miss the peas? You betcha. But it's all good... our sugar snap peas are looking quite healthy these days. In fact the garden looks like a miniature jungle. Not only that but we're finally seeing some little green tomatoes on the plants :) Sucks for the lovely family that I've been buying my tomatoes from but nothing beats walking out your back door and plucking a ripe tomato for a salad!

No more Balsamic Pea Salad from fresh peas. But I rose to the challenge and bought these lovely taters instead:

I must admit that they make me equally happy as the peas and maybe a tad bit more since I don't have to shell them! Those are going to turn into my Picnic Potato Salad. Seriously, I should be posting before and after photos of these lovely food items...

Also scored some more Middle Eastern Squash, some gorgeous green spinach and a bunch of onions:

Not too sure what all that lovely greenery is going to translate into. I'm thinking a wilted spinach salad of some sort? Guess I'll be looking for a new recipe.

Of course I couldn't come home without some sort of sweets considering the hubby and the kid were looking forward to cupcakes just as much as I was. Knowing my husband's penchant for apple pie I had him in mind when I settled on this lovely Apple Crumb Pie:

(That pie will be lucky to make it to the end of the day.) Another sweet geared more towards my liking were some Mean Mint Brownies... I'd totally be gnoshing those down with a cup of hot tea right now but I've got a Ladies Luncheon to attend. Which I should totally be getting ready for...

I've neglected the past couple of posts to rave about the eggs we've been purchasing at the FM as well. Mack was a bit at a loss as every egg he cracked open was a double-yoker! This has held true through the four dozen we've brought home thus far. So my mind has been wondering what exactly a hard boiled double-yoker would look like. Of course I just had to document this since Mack was at work.

I seriously don't know what exactly I was expecting them to look like but it thrills me anyway.

I also have a hard time buying produce now at the grocery store. So far this whole locavore thing has worked pretty well and the only thing we've really been purchasing are bananas and apples!

Okay. (1)If all else fails, I think that you can get a job in photography of food. (2)You should be earning some free product for all the advertising you have been doing for the FM.
